The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, sometimes referred to as "Botox," is a popular injectable that temporarily reduces or eliminates facial fine lines and wrinkles. These injections work by inhibiting the contraction of your muscle in and around certain “problem areas.” Treatment is temporary, and can last anywhere from 3-6 months, dependent on dosing, your metabolism and your activity level.
Tox treatments can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as prevent existing wrinkles from carving in deeper and more permanent lines. Use may also interfere with the function of sebaceous (oil) glands, helping decrease facial oiliness, pore size, and acne.
The most commonly treated areas include:
frown lines (typically referred to as the 11s)
forehead creases
crow's feet near the eyes
Additional areas can be treated, including the platysmas bands (vertical bands in the neck), bunny lines across the nose, the masseters (jaw muscles), the mentalis (chin) and around the mouth (including drooping around the mouth and lip flip).
